Ray Bradbury

One such writer whom until 2019, when I made my self this vow, is the famous Ray Bradbury! Can you believe I’d never read his stories until my late thirties? So I looked up a few of his books and collections, got some and I’ve started enjoying his work. I’ve read the Martian Chronicles which I cannot recommend enough!

For a while now I’ve been making an effort to read more novels, short stories and the like of many genres. There’s many writers whom I’ve been meaning to enjoy over time and many that I’ve read in the past that I never returned to, and series like 007 that I’ve also yet to catch up on!

When people talk of classic scifi beyond the likes of H. G. Wells (The War of the Worlds) and Jules Verne (20’000 Leagues under the Sea). Many names come to into the conversation from the “golden age” of American sci-fi. Bradbury is one and his work blurs genres too!

I’d read The Martian Chronicles which is a real revelation of a book. Essentially it’s a fix up novel of Bradbury’s short stories all relating to Mars and the Martians and so on. Well anyway, his style floored me! It’s fantastical and real, odd and bombastic, optimistic and pessimistic all at once. Definitely worth a read!

In looking up his short stories I’ve found there’s over 600 supposedly! He’s very prolific! But annoyingly most collections of them were by theme or best of or just seem to be random. So I did some more research and found Kent State University in America are compiling his stories into a promising 8 volume set with critical essays and unreleased stories too! Which I’m very excited about. I’m currently enjoying volume one!

The story I just read is called ‘The Wind’. It features John Colt and his paranoia about the wind, or is he paranoid? Read for yourself! What I love about many short stories like this from the 1930s onwards is that there’s many twist endings and this one has a great ending!

So readers, if you’re looking for someone new to read and enjoy honestly you can’t go wrong with Ray Bradbury! Check out any of his novels or short story collections! Some of his novels include ‘Fahrenheit 451’ and ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’.

Thank you for taking a moment to read the latest post from my new blog! I hope you enjoyed it and will read more posts I plan to write in the future. Please ‘Like’ my post and share it, and come back to read more! I really appreciate your support!
